豊臣秀吉の四国征伐の折、加藤清正が焼山の大蛇と戦う場面を描いた一作。 火縄銃を構える武者たちと巨大な大蛇、その周囲を舞う樹木の精――焼山寺（徳島県神山町）の創建には、弘法大師空海が火を吐く大蛇を岩窟に封じ込めたという伝説があり、本作は歴史・軍記・民間信仰が交錯する迫力ある一図です。

This print shows Kato Kiyomasa battling the great serpent of Yakeyama during Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Shikoku campaign. Warriors with matchlock guns confront the massive serpent, while spirits of trees swirl through the scene. The image echoes the founding legend of Shosan-ji Temple in Tokushima, where Kobo Daishi Kukai sealed a fire-breathing serpent within the mountain, bringing history, legend, and folk belief together in a single, powerful image.
