「福つくし」は、「ふく」という音を含む言葉を題材に、明治を生きる女性たちの姿を描いた美人画シリーズです。
題名にはローマ字表記も添えられており、明治期の西洋文化への関心と遊び心がうかがえます。
本図は「ふく神」。
床の間には福徳の神である大黒様が祀られ、振袖姿の女性たちが鏡餅などのお供え物を運んでいます。
The Fukutsukushi series portrays women of the Meiji period through themes based on words containing the sound fuku.
The Romanized title hints at both the curiosity about Western culture and the playful creativity of the Meiji era.
This print is titled Fukujin.
A statue of Daikoku, the god of wealth and good fortune, is enshrined in the alcove, while women in elegant furisode carry offerings, including kagami mochi.
