作品について About the artwork
国貞による美人画シリーズ「十六むさし」。
江戸時代に流行した盤上遊戯をモチーフに、盤面を思わせる幾何学的な背景が印象的なシリーズです。
各図の副題は「〜さし」で統一されており、本図は「銭ざし」。
銭ざしとは女性が手にしている黄色いこよりのような藁紐のことで、穴のあいた一文銭を百文ずつ束ねるためのものでした。
上部の円形のコマ絵には、神社の境内の一部が描かれています。
From Kunisada’s bijin-ga series Juroku Musashi.
Inspired by a popular Edo-period board game, the series is known for its striking geometric backgrounds reminiscent of the game board.
Each print in the series features a subtitle ending in “-sashi,” and this one is titled Zenizashi
Zenizashi refers to the yellow, paper-twist-like straw cord held by the woman, which was used to string together one hundred holed copper coins.
The circular inset at the top depicts a portion of a Shinto shrine precinct.
